Plant
Direct sow. Second sowing in mid-July avoids squash vine borer damage on the first crop.
Care
Watch for squash vine borer — check base of stems weekly for orange sawdust (frass). Radishes planted around the base deter squash bugs.
Harvest
Pick every 1–2 days. 6–8" zucchini are perfect; anything bigger goes to bread or the compost.
Shredded and frozen for bread, soup base. Also grilled and frozen slices, zucchini relish.
