Plant

Erect and semi-trailing thornless varieties (Triple Crown, Chester) are the manageable ones. Plant as a hedgerow along a fence.

Care

Trellis at 3 and 5 ft. Cut floricanes after harvest. Blackberries fruit later than raspberries (Aug–early Sept).

Harvest

Wait until fully black and dull, not shiny — shiny berries are still tart. Every 2 days during peak.

Preserve

Freeze whole, jam, pie filling, cobbler bases, cordial.
