Plant
Sow thick in trays under lights alongside onions. Transplant into 6" dibber holes — don't backfill; rain blanches the shanks over the season.
Care
Shallow roots — hand weed, water weekly. Hill up soil around the shanks in August for extra blanching.
Harvest
Dig Sep–Dec, sweeter after frost. Overwinter mulched for a March harvest.
Best fresh. Also freezes well cleaned and sliced into rings.
