Pulling the mulch off the garlic.

Warmest weekend of March so far. Wet ground, sun on the south side of the barn, and time to pull the straw mulch off the garlic bed.

Every year I forget how satisfying this is. You lift the straw and there are the green shoots already an inch or two up, waiting for light. The garlic went in the third week of October and now — one snow, three ice storms, and a lot of cold rain later — here it is.

Compost tea this week, foliar spray next.
