The seed order comes in.

The first thaw hasn't happened yet — probably won't for another two months — but the seed catalogs came in over Christmas and by mid-January the coffee table is covered.

Six kinds of tomato this year. I know. I know.

There's a discipline to the seed order that I don't always manage. The rule is: pick the crops that carried last season, add one experiment per family, cut anything that limped along. This year the experiment is a Japanese cucumber a friend swore by and a fingerling potato from Maine.
